Tuborg Ransomware Will Lock Your System

Upon analyzing the malware, it became evident that Tuborg is ransomware, distinct from the Tuborg Brewery, designed to encrypt files. Besides encrypting files, Tuborg alters the desktop wallpaper and presents a ransom note named "#tuborg-Help.txt".

Additionally, this ransomware modifies filenames by appending an email address and the ".tuborg" extension. For example, "1.jpg" becomes "1.jpg.[Hiit9890@cyberfear.com].tuborg" and "2.png" becomes "2.png.[Hiit9890@cyberfear.com].tuborg". We also determined that Tuborg is a variant of the Proton ransomware.

The ransom note claims that all files were encrypted and stolen using AES and ECC algorithms, asserting that recovery without the attackers' decryption service is impossible. It demands payment for decryption software and the destruction of stolen data.

Furthermore, the note offers a free decryption of a small file as proof of decryption capability. Contact information is provided, along with a caution against seeking help from recovery companies, and advises victims to act promptly to reduce the ransom amount. Additionally, victims are warned that modifying or deleting encrypted files may complicate decryption.

Tuborg Ransom Note Offers to Decrypt a Single File

The complete text of the ransom note generated by Tuborg reads as follows:

How Can You Protect Your Data from Ransomware Attacks?

Protecting your data from ransomware attacks is crucial to safeguard your valuable information and prevent potential loss or extortion. Here are important measures to consider for data protection against ransomware:

Backup Regularly: Implement a robust backup strategy for your important data. Ensure backups are stored securely and are not accessible from the main network or system that could be compromised by ransomware. Regularly test your backups to ensure they are viable for restoration.

Keep Software Updated: Maintain up-to-date operating systems, applications, and antivirus software. Regular updates often include security patches that address vulnerabilities exploited by ransomware.

Use Antivirus and Antimalware Software: Install reputable antivirus and antimalware solutions on all devices. These tools can detect and prevent ransomware infections before they can encrypt your files.

Enable Firewall: Utilize a firewall to monitor and control incoming and outgoing network traffic. Firewalls can block malicious connections and prevent ransomware from communicating with its command-and-control servers.

Implement Email Security Measures: Educate users about phishing emails and other social engineering tactics used to deliver ransomware. Implement email filtering and scanning to detect and block malicious attachments or links.
